My approch on film scoring

I use my imagination and devoted focus on supporting the

director's vision, and translate his storytelling into music. I constantly try to refine

my understanding of concept and characters, and to improve my expressive palette.

My expressive power comes from understanding the plot, reading between the lines

of the script, put myself in the characters' shoes, and most of all understanding the

director's way of thinking and point of view.

The most important part of the collaborative process are the meetings with the director, where I play the drafts, ideas or anything that comes through my mind and noted down. His response, and constructive criticism of ideas flow back and forth openly. Out of this interaction, the score manifests naturally and breathes life into the film.

On a second layer there are the audience emotional depth and any hidden subtexts that are not in the picture or mentioned by words. I always try to do my best and prioritize the message that the director wants to get through the film and at the end make music work for each individual scene.

I started with music at an early age, by playing the bouzouki. I soon began playing the clarinet as well and more folk instruments like mandolin and baglama, my first encounters was with greek folk and popular music. I also studied By the age of twelve I began studying music theory and classical harmony and soon after classical repertoire as a clarinetist.

I received my BMus from Ionian University where I followed classical composition and live performance as majors. At the time I got even more into classical and started getting involved with electronic music and music technology. At the time I studied with professors Joseph Papadatos, C. Xanthoudakis, D. Maragopoulos and Demetra Trypani. I also collaborated with Stathis Soulis and The Ionian Contemporary Ensemble.

I worked as a music teacher for a few years and now I follow my passion for composing music. The choice of film composing gives me the versatility to blend, fuse and intercept with different styles of music and various kinds of sounds. It gives me more freedom and more colours on my pallette. I have worked on various projects including short films, mobile applications and video games and an independant feature film.

I love the process of creating musical images, fantasy triggers and emotional setups. It is something you can nowadays find in film music descending directly from the operas of the 19th century, which when where for people what cinema is today! I particularly enjoy using my sounds to enhance and make unique of an experience for the audience.
